If you’re reading this article, you are most likely in need of developing a training course. Luckily, you’ve probably already decided on using SC Training (formerly EdApp), which is an easy way to get an online course that is brilliantly designed, looks good on any device, and is full of drag-and-drop features to make creating any course easy and fun.

The reason it’s so easy is because of SC Training (formerly EdApp)’s intuitive authoring tool. With this tool, you can easily put together a dynamic and multi-media-filled course in minutes. Combined with SC Training (formerly EdApp)’s other learning management system features like extensive reporting and microlearning, it means you will be creating effective training courses at lightning-fast speed.

In this article, we’ll see just how quick and effortless it is to accomplish your course-authoring goals. This includes registering for a free account, how to set up a course, improving training user-experience, and developing engaging lessons.

Develop An Online Training Course – Step 1 – Sign Up

To start, you will need to sign up for a free SC Training (formerly EdApp) account. The free account accommodates up to ten learners. Registering is fast and you will be ready to start making courses immediately after.

To start, click on the big blue Sign Up Free action button on SC Training (formerly EdApp)’s home page. From there, you just need to supply the dialog box a verified email address and password, and also your personal and contact information, then click Create account at the bottom and then you are all set.

Now, you can log in to SC Training (formerly EdApp) from the Log In link in the top navigation pane and subsequently choose Admin as your login type. Enter the credentials that you just created and then you will be taken to the Dashboard.

Next, navigate to the Courses page which can be reached from the Courseware dropdown menu in the top navigation bar. (Refer to screenshot below)

That will take you to the Courses page. Here you will see a list of action buttons along the top. At first, you’ll see that there is a button to upload a PowerPoint file. That makes it easy for you to import educational content that you’ve already created.

You can also browse courses from the content library that has many preexisting courses that you can import. These cover many common topics, like compliance or cybersecurity.

Lastly, you will see the blue Create a Course button. It has a drop down where you can create a collection or import a course, but for now, just click the main button to start creating a course.

Upon clicking the button to create a new course, you will be taken to the New Course page. The first thing you can do here is type in a course title and description.

Next, there is a toggle for whether the course is a draft or not. By default, it is set to draft. Later, when you are ready to publish, switch this toggle so that it reads This course is published.

In the main area, you will see multiple tabs where you can start building your course. There are tabs for lessons, branding, access rules, briefcase, engagement, and completion. A tab labelled More also gives you options such as linking courses, copying the course to collections, using unique identifiers for APIs, and overwriting course text.

Every course is going to need lessons, so let’s go ahead and do that step next. For now, type in a course description, for example, Coffee Roasting. Then click the Create a Lesson blue button to get started.

Once clicked, you will be on the New Lesson page. Enter a lesson name and a description. Notice that the lesson is a draft by default, just like the course, and can be published afterward.

When you have your title and description, the screen will be displaying three buttons at the top of the main window. A button labelled Change Log lets you see what recent changes happened in the lesson and by who. The Review Lesson Text button lets you quickly change text in the lesson. Lastly, the Edit Lesson Content starts the Authoring Tool so you can begin adding interactive elements to the lesson.

Before starting the authoring tool, also notice that you are in a preview mode with a two-slide lesson that’s a placeholder. The preview window is set to a device, such as an iPhone 7, and you can change the device from the dropdown. You can also switch between slides using the arrow buttons below the device select dropdown.

Now, let’s click the Edit Lesson Content button to start building the lesson with the Authoring Tool. You will immediately see that you can easily edit all the components of the title slide.

At the top, you can switch between the state of each slide, such as whether it has just been presented to the user (Prompt), if the user has interacted with the content (Active), or if the user has completed the slide (Complete). Next, you can change the preview device and zoom level. The arrow buttons let you move forward and backwards through slides. Text formats are also available including bold, italics, and adjust font size.

You can use are also formatting buttons and checkbox such to improve the text of your lessons. Redo and undo icons are located at the toolbar left side of the page, which let you reverse the last input or reapply it, respectively.

Let’s now see how easy it is to get interactive content into your lesson. For how to add more content, Click on the Add a New Slide button on the right side. A panel will pop up where you can choose from all sorts of slide templates.

Now you can add a basic quiz question, so find the Multiple Choice templates from the clickable menu and scroll to a basic Multiple Choice template in that list. Click on the template you want and it will load up in your lesson.

Back in your lesson screen, you can see that you have an easy-to-edit multiple choice slide in your lesson. Edit the content to your choosing. SC Training (formerly EdApp) will automatically save your changes.

As you can see, it is easy to add all sorts of customization and interactive content to your lessons. Your imagination is your limit when creating eLearning with SC Training (formerly EdApp). Click on the lesson title in the breadcrumbs menu at the top, then set the toggle to Published. Then, click on the course title in the breadcrumbs menu and toggle it to Published, as well.

Now, when you return to the Courses page, you will see that your course is there and published. You will want to do some more things such as adding thumbnails and inviting users, so please check on those things in other articles.
