gamifying learning

What Is Gamification?

Gamification is the compilation of various gaming elements into the course content for maximum engagement and information retention. These features may include leaderboards, point scores, star bars, and real prizing. After the utilization of gamification, L&D managers have found learners to be more entrenched in their learning, contributing to a stronger and well-informed workforce for overall organizational success.

Gamification has revolutionized the learning sphere. Simplifying complex content into digestible, clear segments, gamification is the perfect strategy for learning a language.

If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, gamifying learning content encapsulates the integration of game-like interactivities into a formal learning setting.

In the midst of our technological age, it has become increasingly difficult to keep individuals engaged in a captivating learning space. Learning new content, particularly languages, requires deep concentration and persistence, which may be difficult for some. The information must be presented in ways that are clear to learners of different competency levels and must be accessible. So, how? An effective way is through language learning gamification among all other methods.

Microlearning has given rise to all of these capabilities through its offering of a plethora of unique features for various functions. The mobile nature of microlearning gives rise to the power of anytime, anywhere, meaning that learners are able to access their training at times that suit them. This flexibility and agility are essential for the modern learner, suiting their needs and preferences for optimal performance. Gamification is utilized by L&D professionals in microlessons through the release of vital information in short, bite-sized bursts to be easily digested by learners.

When learning languages, absorbing small pieces of knowledge at a time is much more effective than attempting to binge learn. Microlearning can be thought of as a ‘mind gym’, where learners will more likely reach success if learning is slow and steady. On this path, learners are able to gradually gain pieces of information to eventually get to a point where a holistic understanding is developed.

Let us explore some aspects of our gamification tools that specifically assist in the process of language learning

1. Automated Gamification

Game templates are already created, and the only thing you need to do is populate the template with your unique content. Your uniquely designed microlessons can be easily used with our mobile-focused LMS, or you can export them to SCORM for integration with your existing LMS.

2. Prizing and Real Rewards

Rewarding learners allows them to be able to see their progress while boosting their motivation. SC Training (formerly EdApp)’s authoring tool provides a gamified learning experience that offers direct recognition of course completion, frequency-of-use, and other features through a gamification-based reward system.

3. Competitive Learning

Competitive, gamified learning can be achieved by implementing leaderboards as part of your learning strategy. Learner motivation is enhanced through the display of performance for all to see.

4. Boosted Motivation

Persistence is vital when learning a language as it is a slow, and sometimes tedious, process. Various challenges are posed to learners, meaning that their motivation must be sustainable for a continual drive.
