Through this language lesson, aspiring freelancers will be able to learn about the pros and cons of freelancing and the different vocabulary used in this line of work. 

The 12-part course will help you learn how to build a CV, get started on Upwork, create tailored proposals, and talk about your experience to potential clients. In between the lessons, you can also do practice exercises to apply what you’ve learned so far.

2. English for Freelancers: Communication Skills I

Another SC Training (formerly EdApp) language lesson on this list is English for Freelancers: Communication Skills I. It was developed by The British Council in partnership with Gaza Sky Geeks as a way to improve the communication, problem-solving, and negotiation skills of aspiring freelancers.

3. Level 1 - Online ASL Course

If you’re interested in learning about American Sign Language (ASL), then this beginner language lesson by Sign Language 101 is for you. This 10-part course first takes you through the basics of ASL, including gestures and body language, common words, and everyday signs. The second part then discusses different ways to talk about hobbies, people, bodies, clothes, and time.

4. Basic Spanish 1: Getting Started

The Universitat Politècnica de València designed this introductory language lesson for anyone who wants to learn basic conversational Spanish as one of their first language lessons. Offered on edX for free, Basic Spanish 1: Getting Started discusses fundamental Spanish vocabulary, including the alphabet and numbers. It also teaches learners how to introduce themselves and describe their nationality, family, and interests.

5. Business English: Networking

Hosted on Coursera, the Business English: Networking course is offered by the University of Washington as part of their 4-part Business English Specialization program. Its main goals are to help employees develop their networking skills and improve their communication skills in the workplace. This way, they’ll be able to learn English for business settings, introduce their business, write formal emails, and arrange meetings with confidence in their English skills. 

Some of the lessons also discuss ways to socialize and present information in a discussion forum. Overall, this training program will take learners around 28 hours to complete. But keep in mind that the lessons are spread across four weeks to help them avoid information overload.

The Open University Language Lesson - Getting Started with German 1

6. Getting Started with German 1

This language lesson will help you develop the foundations for learning German by introducing you to common words, phrases, and conversation starters. It also goes over the basic rules of German pronunciation and grammar so that you can understand and communicate clearly. By the end of this training program, you’ll be able to use German greetings, count from one to ten, pronounce different German-speaking countries, and introduce yourself in German.

Coursera Language Lesson - First Step Korean

7. First Step Korean

Offered by Yonsei University through Coursera, this language lesson is targeted at anyone who wants to learn beginner-level Korean. The first lesson introduces learners to the Korean alphabet or writing system, which is also known as “Hangeul”. Once you’re more familiar with the alphabet, this course then proceeds to discuss the different ways that you can introduce yourself, greet someone, and ask questions about nationalities, jobs, and other topics. Expressions about family, time, and dates will also be explained in detail at the end of the training program.
