What is Illinois BASSET training?

Illinois BASSET training is a state employee program that teaches the essential laws, principles, and skills for responsible alcohol service.

The course covers staff regulations, service techniques, selling practices, and customer protection, following the guidelines of the Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC). It’s frontline training that helps your team prevent alcohol-related abuse, accidents, and legal issues.

It offers two types of BASSET certifications crucial for alcohol-serving or -selling establishments. They are:

  • On-premise certification: Training in responsible alcohol service for employees of businesses that serve liquor for consumption inside their establishment.
  • Off-premise certification: Specialized alcohol service course for employees of stores that sell hard drinks that’ll be drunk outside their location.

Is BASSET training required in Illinois?

Illinois requires all workers of on-premise alcohol service establishments to complete BASSET certification training. Servers, bartenders, waitstaff, and security personnel must take this course to qualify for legal employment and deliver alcohol services responsibly. This training should be completed within the first 120 days of their hiring.

It’s also noteworthy that while the ILCC doesn’t require off-premise service employees to take this course, it allows employers to make training mandatory for their teams.

Safeguard alcohol service quality with BASSET training

Failure to meet Illinois’ standards and requirements for responsible alcohol service exposes your business to costly consequences. An under-trained and non-compliant team increases the threat of expensive fines, legal liabilities, and even license termination.
